The Parkland School of Nurse-Midwifery is fortunate in having a variety of individuals who contribute in various ways. Three individuals are the major faculty members of the school.

Mary C. Brucker, CNM, DNSc, FACNM is a graduate from the University of Mississippi Nurse-Midwifery Program. She received her undergraduate degree and her Master's in Science in Maternal Newborn Nursing from St. Louis University and her doctoral degree from Rush University in Chicago. She has been a CNM for more than thirty-five years and has cared for women in both public and private sectors.

Mary Ann Faucher, CNM, PhD received her Masters in both Nursing (Nurse-Midwifery) and in Public Health from Columbia University in New York. A native of Massachusetts, she moved to Texas more than 15 years ago. She received her doctorate degree from TWU in Health in 2002. She has a special expertise in pharmacology especially in midwifery care. She has been employed continuously through Parkland Health & Hospital System as a CNM longer than any other nurse-midwife.

Karen Zelman, CNM, MS graduated from Parkland School of Nurse Midwifery in the fall of 1995 and has worked in the Parkland system ever since. She was honored as the most outstanding graduate student at Texas Woman's University where she obtained her Master's degree in Nursing in 1996. She works part time on the faculty, with a concentration on primary care and and intrapartum.

Other individuals involved in the program include :

Barry E. Schwarz, MD is the Vice Chairperson of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. He has provided medical support, consultation and assistance to the program since its inception in 1989.

Rebecca (Becky) Parker is the Administrative Assistant for the Parkland School of Nurse-Midwifery. She has provided administrative and staff support for the program since 1994.

There are a number of Nurse-Midwives who, although on staff at Parkland, have provided support, occasional lecture and sometimes supervision of students, especially during the Integration Module.

Thorhildur (Tory) Agustsdottir, CNM, BSN, who is a midwife in her native Iceland, enrolled and graduated from the Parkland School of Nurse Midwifery in 1997. She enrolled in Parkland School of Nurse Midwifery in order to be able to practice her chosen profession in this country. She is married with two children and lives in Fort Worth.

Rebecca (Becky) Ames, CNM, BSN is a native of Arlington, Texas and has worked for many years at Arlington Memorial Hospital in Labor and Delivery and as a provider for women after sexual assault. She graduated from Parkland School of Nurse-Midwifery in 1998.

Anthonia Azubogu, CNM, MS is from Nigeria but has spent most of her life in New Orleans before moving to Dallas and working in Labor & Delivery at Parkland Health & Hospital System. She currently is the Chair of ACNM Chapter V-12.

Rene' Bakkal, CNM, BS is originally from Louisana. She had a rich life in business before becoming a nurse. She then worked at Parkland in Labor and Delivery. She currently lives in Rockwall, Texas since shortly after her graduation in 2001 from the Parkland School of Nurse-Midwifery.

Leslie Brown, CNM, BSN was born and raised in North Texas and lives there with her husband and daughter. She graduated from Parkland School of Nurse-Midwifery in 2002.

Carrie Dennis, CNM is originally from Oklahoma. She graduated from the Parkland School of Nurse-Midwifery in 2001 and currently lives in the North Texas area with her husband and children.

Grace Burke, CNM, MS, FACNM is the Director of Nurse-Midwifery Services at Parkland Health & Hospital System. She graduated from Columbia University in New York's graduate nurse-midwifery program and has a rich history of working in the Caribbean. She has taught in the nurse practitioner program at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

Susan Chew, CNM, MS is originally from Malaysia and practiced as a midwife in England. She attended a pre-certification program specifically designed for internationally educated midwives under the auspices of Frontier Nursing Service, and the clinical experiences were obtained at Parkland Health & Hospital System. After graduation, she obtained her Master's degree from Case Western University in Ohio.

Jill Coltharp (Laun), CNM, BSN, BS has undergraduate degrees in biology as well as nursing. A Midwesterner by birth, she came to Dallas to work in Labor and Delivery at Parkland Health & Hospital System after graduating from her nursing program. She is a 1999 graduate from Parkland School of Nurse Midwifery.

Marta Correa, CNM is a South American native who is bilingual and bicultural. She graduated from the University of Southern California nurse-midwifery program and obtained wide experience in her program at LA County Hospital.

Janice Crow, CNM, BSN, MS completed her Master's degree at Texas Woman's University in 1997, prior to enrolling in Parkland School of Nurse-Midwifery. She has worked in Labor and Delivery in several area hospitals before pursuing midwifery and graduated in the 1998 class of Parkland School of Nurse-Midwifery.

Kathleen Donaldson, CNM, MS is a women's health care nurse practitioner from Fort Worth, Texas who graduated from Parkland School of Nurse-Midwifery in 2000, after more than a decade in practice, primarily in obstetrics.

Elizabeth Fairchild, CNM, MSN graduated from nurse-midwifery at Yale University. She has lectured students on such topics as dating in pregnancy & gestational diabetes. Previously, she was a faculty member at Parkland School of Nurse Midwifery.

Waltona (Tina) Cummings, CNM, BSN is a native of Africa. She received her basic midwifery through the British system and did a precertification course designed for internationally educated nurse-midwives through the auspices of Frontier Nursing Service at Parkland Health & Hospital System. She is particularly active with the American College of Nurse-Midwives projects educating midwives and traditional birth attendants in Africa.

Shannon Gale, CNM, BSN is a native Texan who worked at Parkland before she attended and graduated from Parkland School of Nurse-Midwifery in 2002.

Amy Giles, CNM, BSN has a history of working both in labor and delivery nursing as well as home health. She graduated from Parkland School of Nurse-Midwifery in 2002.

Marcy Garcia, CNM is a graduate from the University of Mississippi and was one of the original CNMs to work at Parkland Health & Hospital System. She has worked at a variety of settings before and since that date, returning to Parkland Health & Hospital System a few years ago to rejoin the group of nurse-midwives. She teaches Spanish language prenatal classes.

Carol A. Graham, CNM, MSN graduated in the 1996 class of Parkland School of Nurse-Midwifery. She received her Master's Degree through a Master's Completion program at the State University of New York, Stony Brook in 1997. She participated in a Parkland Health & Hospital System program that enabled her to improve her Spanish and enrich her understanding of Mexican culture by visiting in this country.

Pam Henry, CNM, MS graduated from the University of Miami. She has an international background in the area of nurse-midwifery before joining the other nurse-midwives at Parkland Health & Hospital System.

Dena Howerton, CNM, MS lives with her family in her hometown of Keene, Texas. She worked primarily in Labor & Delivery before entering the program and graduated from Parkland School of Nurse-Midwifery in 2000.

Patricia Krach (Cave), CNM, MSN, graduated from Parkland School of Nurse Midwifery in 1992. She has lectured to the students in the past on various complications and professional issues.

Jodie L. Kuiper , CNM, BSN, MS, comes from Memphis. She worked as a nurse at Parkland Health & Hospital System in Labor and Delivery before enrolling and graduating from Parkland School of Nurse Midwifery in 1997 and received her Master's degree from TWU in 1998.

Coreen Lloyd-Adams, CNM, MS came to the state from the Virgin Islands. She is a graduate from the University of Texas at El Paso Nurse-Midwifery Program in association with Texas Tech.

Tania Lopez, CNM, MS lives south of Fort Worth with her husband and daughter and has a background in both Labor & Delivery and Emergency Departments. She graduated from Parkland School of Nurse-Midwifery in 2000.

Lorre Macdonald, CNM, BSN is originally from Tennessee but has worked in the metropolitan area most of her professional life. Prior to being a nurse she worked in various areas, including as a flight attendant. After finishing her nursing education she worked within hospital labor and delivery units as well as with home monitoring of women with high risk pregnancies.

Peggy Mancuso, CNM, PhD practices nurse-midwifery part-time at Parkland Health & Hospital System, while teaching at Texas Woman's University from which she obtained her doctoral degree in the field of nursing. She is a graduate of the 1994 class at the Parkland School of Nurse Midwifery. Currently she is immediate past Chapter Chair of the North Texas (V-12) Chapter of the American College of Nurse-Midwives and is a member of the ACNM Certification Corporation (ACC).

Barbara (Babs) McAlister, CNM, BSN, MS has lived in Texas for a decade although she originally came from New Orleans. She graduated from the Parkland School of Nurse-Midwifery in 1996 and completed her Master's Degree in 1997 from Texas Woman's University. She is head of the National Mentoring Program for the American College of Nurse-Midwives and on the ACC committee for re-certification.

Beverly Nelson, CNM, BSN has spent most of her life living and working in Clute, Texas, a predominantly rural area outside of Houston. She moved to Dallas in order to attend the program. She has been working on her Master's degree at the University of Texas Health Science Center and graduated from Parkland School of Nurse-Midwifery in 1998.

Sherry Oldfield, CNM, MS is a graduate of Baylor College of Medicine's midwifery program. She worked in various sites after graduation, coming to Parkland Health & Hospital System from an active home birth practice in the Midwest.

Kathleen Steinsberger, CNM, BSN is from North Texas. She worked in Labor and Delivery at Parkland Health & Hospital System for several years before attending Parkland School of Nurse-Midwifery from which she graduate in 2001.

Tracy Trenhaile-Sellers, CNM, BSN, MS graduated from the 1994 class at Parkland School of Nurse Midwifery. She received her Master's Degree from Texas Woman's University. She, her husband and two small sons live in Fort Worth, Texas. She is one of two Senior Nurse-Midwives at Parkland Health & Hospital System.

Clarice Uthlaut, CNM, BSN had been active in health care before she decided to become a nurse. She was involved in office management of a chiropractic center. After completing her basic nursing education she worked at Parkland Health & Hospital System and then graduated from Parkland School of Nurse-Midwifery in 2001.

Helen M. Vega, CNM has lived in various sites in the Western United States. She has almost 20 years of experience, primarily in labor and delivery. Most recently she had been working with Native Americans in New Mexico before becoming a nurse-midwife. She now lives in Dallas with her family and is a graduate of the 1997 Class of Parkland School of Nurse Midwifery.

Joy E. Windebank, CNM, MSN came to Texas several years ago from her native Illinois. She is well known for her computer skills. She graduated from the 1996 class of Parkland School of Nurse-Midwifery. She received her Master's Degree through the Master's Completion program at State University of New York, Stony Brook in 1997.

Fuying Xu, CNM, MS a native of Bejing, China. She worked for several years in health care both in China and Denmark before immigrating to the United States. She relocated to the Metroplex from Arizona where she had worked in Labor and Delivery. She graduated from Parkland School of Nurse Midwifery in 1999.

Student Nurse-Midwives

SNMs are registered nurses who usually come to nurse-midwifery with a great deal of experience, both in nursing and in life. Often they are parents, and many have spent years organizing their lives in order to enroll in a nurse-midwifery program.


The 2002-2003 full-time class of Parkland School of Nurse-Midwifery student nurse-midwives include the following:

Lindsay Kragle, SNM, BSN from Ft. Worth, Texas. She received her Bachelors degree from Catholic University in Washington DC but returned to the metroplex to work at Parkland Health & Hospital in Labor and Delivery.

Gabrielle Landburg, SNM, BSN was born in Haiti and has lived in the North East. Currently she and her family live in Denton, Texas and most recently she has been working at Parkland Health & Hospital System in Labor and Delivery.

Michelle Lovgren, SNM, BSN lives in Forney, Texas with her husband and children. She has been a Labor and Delivery nurse in the area.

Betty Shory, SNM, BSN originally was born in Michigan, but has spent most of her adult life in Florida. She has been an active Lamaze teacher and breast feeding support as well as working in labor and delivery and management thereof. She relocated to Texas in part to attend the Parkland School of Nurse-Midwifery.

The 2002-2004 part-time class of Parkland School of Nurse-Midwifery student nurse-midwives include the following:

Megan Arbuckle, SNM, BSN was born in Pittsburgh but has lived in Dallas for several years. She has worked in Labor and Delivery as well as other areas within Parkland Health & Hospital System.

Chantal Bontemps-Christian, SNM, BSN originally was born in Haiti, but has lived in Massachusetts and now resides with her family in Denton, Texas. She has a special knowledge base in neonatology.

Shalawn Harris, SNM, BSN is a Labor and Delivery nurse at Parkland Health & Hospital System and helps teach childbirth classes.

Jeanean Sullivan, SNM, BSN was born in Michigan, but has been in the Metroplex for several years. She works in Labor and Delivery in the area.

There are other nurse-midwives in practices in the area who come and share expertise with students.

Susan Akins, CNM, MS, graduated from Parkland School of Nurse Midwifery in 1992. She has an active practice but graciously volunteers hours to Parkland School of Nurse Midwifery in the form of special transitions seminars for students.
